Dr. Dominic De Groote currently heads UGent DISCOVERE, a virtual platform of biomedical laboratories at Ghent University with activities in or related to drug discovery, drug delivery and drug manufacturing. DISCOVERE aims to translate biomedical research into high-value projects to support discovery and development of more and better medicines for patients by pharma industry. DISCOVERE offers research groups a framework to develop innovative research to an industrially recognised proof-of-concept level by pooling know-how and resources in the fields of medicinal chemistry, structural biology, biological screening, pharmacokinetics and toxicology. In addition, DISCOVERE provides business development services to set-up partnerships with industry and aims to act as an organizational point-of-entry for companies in search for specific solutions for their own drug discovery projects.

Dr. Dominic De Groote holds a PhD in veterinary medicine and has extensive experience in the field of technology transfer (RTTP accredited). He has profound skills and knowledge in drug discovery, business development, intellectual property, licensing and venturing.

He assumed the responsibility of IP & Business Development Manager in 2005 and further built expertise and skills in the fields of patent management, R&D partnering and technology licensing. He is also familiar with spin-off creation. In 2008, he assumed the position of Business Development Manager Pharma for the newly created DISCOVERE platform.

Dr. De Groote is also active in the European and global  technology transfer community in professional development programmes and organisations (ASTP, ATTP).
